The Written Word

Words unspoken, only typed
Sideswiping (- and sideswiped)
New connections, lost and made
I find a narrative in spotted shade
But I can't get to it
Cause inertia has me under its spell
So many stories I'm reluctant to tell
In conversation, even to good friends
But my writing slices through the veneer
And my fears dissolve without a trace
My courage doubles, manifests
In ways that soothe and startle me
Exposing under-sung, heroic aspects
Of my (ever-emerging) personality
While my whimpers and my yelps
Get tucked back on the shelves
And I'm neglecting the way
They're cloaked in dust, in disarray
And I am thankful for all the things I've said and heard,
Because they complement the written word
