Postmodern Barcelona: the Visuals

Hey peeps,
I wasn't sure of what to expect from Barcelona... I knew that it had a lot of modernist buildings by Gaudi from the guidebook, and that it had many magnificent artists of the 20th C (Dali, Picasso, Miro), but none of these (to my knowledge) were postmodern, although they have been an inspiration to postmodernists in various ways.
Lucky for me, Barcelona was brimming with pomo sights... I didn't have to look far to capture some of my favourite photos yet. Here they are, for your viewing pleasure:

Residential building - note how the white lines move across the surface to accentuate irregular shapes that can be created within the compound, and the small circle on the right, which defies the pattern. Note also the irregularity of the windows!
This restraunt, established in 1902, was called American: Soda. It sold international cuisine, on the corner of La Rambla, lol

It's one of my favourites too...
The chocolate models were all behind glass, presumably so no one could take a bite out of them...
Catch you later, girl!

I would absolutely love to go to Spain. That blue and white building is really appealing, leads the eye all over the place.
You have captured some great moments here - thanks for sharing

Barcelona can get very crowded, but I'm sure there are many picturesque small towns just waiting for you to find out about them... I would love to see more of Spain as well, but I doubt I'll be back for a good while. Did you know in the south they used to convert old mosques to churches (and sometimes back again)? My friend tells me that at one point they just plonked a church in the middle of a mosque! It's fascinating.
I had a field day with the blue and white building, I'm sooo glad we decided to walk to the train station from Park Guell - it was just before the stairs to the Metro!

I'm seriously considering relocating there for a while, one day when I graduate from uni... I could teach English or something. Actually, with an English lit degree I could probably do something like work for a newspaper or magazine.

That sounds like a fantastic plan. A friend of mine did a double degree in Communications and Cultural Studies and went to Santiago for a year. An English lit degree sounds like it would have many opportunities as well. Barcelona would be an amazing place to live for a year...
