Day 7 of Sydney
February 25th 2008 07:05
I am slowly getting back to the student holidays-induced laziness I left behind for Europe now, checking my email every five minutes and uploading yet another five photos every five minutes. I'm not sure whether I'm looking forward to the end of this recumbence-friendly state or not, but sure enough, next week it's business as usual at USyd.
LaurenD wasn't joking when she described the loudness of the birds in Australia - they were always annoying (we live next to a Nature Reserve) with their squeaking and clacking noises, but I'm noticing them more than usual now that I've returned from the much more noise-free Italy and Spain.
It's hilarious that Obama has been accused of being unpatriotic. I think if I were in America I would get very fed up with the political climate. Of course, I'm very fed up with the political climate in Australia, and I don't see any political climates that I would manage to not get fed up in, which is a shame. People need to get used to the notion of revolution, more and more intensely. I would love to see a change in this direction. As a friend puts it, "I need it [to be healthy]."
Today was the first day since I've been back that I woke up in the sunlight, and it feels good. I'm not very excited about the Oscars tonight as I already know the Best Picture winner, and Jon Stewart's past hosting of the event wasn't very promising so I'm not looking forward to it much either. All the same, it'll be nice to see Viggo Mortensen and other interesting people (if they can be found) looking at their best.
There's a group dedicated to Chiho Aoshima on Facebook, would you believe?
I forgot to mention a very interesting sight I came across in Barcelona- a man was driving a yellow-orange vehicle which looked like a motorcycle and a car had been chopped in half and joined to each other in the middle. The front was motorcycle-like, and only expanded greatly in the middle to accommodate whatever is traditionally kept in the back of a car. There was no windshield.
The other interesting vehicle I saw was dark green and was pretty much like a motorcycle only it had a windshield that curved all the way to the back over the top, so the contraption looked like a section of a sphere which had been chiselled away at in the middle - very futuristic. Almost like a little pod with a mid-section that had been cut away from the rest.

I tried looking for similar vehicles on the internet, but to no avail. I did fnd an interesting link here though, if you're interested. It has pics of 'Strange and Unusual' vehicles.
