What's postmodern in my life?

I'm feeling very international these days... not only am I seriously pursuing a job that will take me all around Europe on a regular basis (a traveler's dream), I've been mingling with people of all kind of backgrounds more frequently, and over the past few months, I've begun a number of close friendships over the internet. I am going to meet one of these new e-mates this weekend and I am feeling all shiny, new and refreshed.
It began with postmodernism-inspired pals in Egypt and Denmark, found myself re-invigorating my friendship with my friend in China, led me to place up ads for musicians, language swaps and counselling lessons, generating a wealth of contacts. I am currently learning Japanese, Spanish, Chinese and French! My Spanish teacher is a photographer and architect who originated in Italy and has spent many years in Spain, and my Chinese teacher has lived in both Beijing and Hong Kong. My French teacher is a Parisian of Algerian background, which gives her a unique view of the French, and my Japanese tutor is a pretty girl from Kyoto, somewhere in Japan I haven't been.
But much more interesting than all of them combined is the newest person in my life, a recent arrival to Sydney with years of experience working as an audio technician in Germany. Without so much as having heard of postmodernism, he has an instinctive feel for its language, and his incredible insight is of a lyrical quality. We're hoping to work together on some musical pieces, see what happens when our energies bounce off each other.
I haven't been this happy to be alive in this world.
Then there's some texts I can point you to, like Robyn's incredibly cool official video clip for 'Cobrastyle'.
What else has been catching my attention? Upon watching the Vice Presidential debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin, I found myself most impressed by their lack of progressive policies for America where the introduction of gay marriage on a national level was considered. I decided that, while California, Massachussets and, now, Connecticut are cool enough to have implemented this practice already, perhaps I am better off living in a country where it is legal in every state, like Spain. Then again, I suppose California is about the same size as Spain (relatively speaking). And English is the official language. But it doesn't have Barcelona. (I have a feeling this could go on for days.)
I am saving up money to accompany Ash of Flashes of Memories and Australian Traveller to Asia later this year, I hope it works out for us as we're both 'professional' travelers and would only inspire each other to let go of all expectations and immerse ourselves in the best things about each location.

What a wonderful life it would be to travel for a living. I have never really been anywhere. I'm sad to say that even with my passion for history and world events, I've never been fortunate enough to travel abroad.
Perhaps if you land this job, you can hook me up with one of these tours!

I will indeed make sure you get a discount if I become one of Contiki's Tour Managers! I think one of their multi-country tours would be a great introduction to Europe, if that's where you want to go. They have a lot of different options, there really seems to be something for everyone.
I'm curious about this Beta Girl thing, I'll go check it out today...
