What I think is Beautiful...

May 22nd 2007 03:24
(from a high school memo to myself)

- Finding beauty & inspiration (i.e. the act of finding something beautiful is beautiful)
- Ppl & their smiles (confidence, self-esteem)
- Language, music, art, poetry
- Everything (is potentially beautiful)
- It's beautiful when ppl believe they are beautiful (We're often made to feel anything but beautiful, attractive, so every person that fights against this trend makes a palpable difference to the world around them)
- Unselfishness & kindness is beautiful; accepting yourself and others
- Being open to looking at other ways of thinking & appreciating differences is beautiful

- Beauty can be found everywhere - how much we want to see is up to us
- Being positive is beautiful; looking for positive qualities instead of negative ones
- Being yourself, free of affectation
- Individuality
- "Develop a negative into a positive picture" - Lauryn Hill

Doesn't high school optimism/faux pessimism just make you feel sick in hindsight?

Lol, well this piece manages to resonate with me today... I'm really grateful that I dug it up yesterday!

Ah, Lauryn Hill. "Selah."

Wounds are beautiful as they heal.

Evocative post, PMC.

Forgive my ignorance, Lauren, but what does 'Selah' refer to?

I love your addition to my list!

Lovely, sweet piece. It sure 'resonated' with me.
Too bad some people become so jaded ,,,,But from your messages I can't imagine that happening to you.

Dear Mena,

Thank you so much for your message. It's always a shame when people don't maximise their potential and achieve their utmost heart's desires by choosing to lower their standards. It sounds like you're not one of those people either and so I'm very grateful that you stopped by and left a note behind.

Hiya Epiphanie

You may take this the wrong way... however it`s not intended to be anything bad.

As I was reading your post I had this feeling that you are a very misunderstood person.... kinda searching for the place where you belong?

You have such beautiful thoughts and I really do hope you have found your place where you can express that wholly.

Dear Ash,

I'm not offended but I wonder how you got that impression? lol
I often feel like I don't have a lot of people I can talk to but I put that down to being in Australia when I really want to be in America, and being 'ahead of my time'...
I do have good friends with whom I can share some of my innermost thoughts, but of course no friendship is perfect.
Perhaps I am misunderstood in the sense that most people aren't as into postmodern theory as I am and my attempts to help them is not always welcome. I hope I do feel more 'at home' in the future; I have a feeling that time isn't too far away.

Love,
Epiphanie

Hiya Epiphanie

Like I said I really don`t mean to offend you because that is not my intention at all... I`m just the type of person that says it like it is and often that come out in totally the wrong way.

It was just a feeling I got as I was reading this post of yours. Sometimes I read things that people have written and get a visual of them writing it as I am reading. It`s probably just my imagination playing tricks with me.... but like I say I cannot help but tell it like it is.

As I said you have a very unique and beautiful way of looking at the world... very delicate.... and I love that. I suppose in this world of violence and immorality you are a breath of fresh air and perhaps it was that which I was picking up on.

I really do hope you find your niche. It is not a nice place to be as a constant 'traveller'

I enjoy your optimism. However, is not being realistic also beautiful; and being realistic is not always being positive?

Secondly, thinking that you are beautiful can often knock on the door of arogance. Rather, I would say that those who learn to appreciate there individual beauties are beautiful.

Still, I like the romantic and positive reflexions you have given to the word 'beautiful'

Simon - I thought the piece was very realistic...

I love those sappy moments in life. Those moments that, from an outsider's view, seem absolutely sappy and cliched, but from my own perspective seems perfect. I love finding absolute beauty in things, and wondering why no one else sees what you do.
